New Bern, North Carolina to Rockland, Maine

It is Spring and we are resuming our trek up the East Coast.  We departed New Bern Grand Marina on April 30th at about 0930.  Our plan was to travel to Oriental, North Carolina the first day and anchor in the harbor by the Marina.  The wind was blowing 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots.  So... not too long after we left the marina we hoisted the sails and turned off the noisy engine.  We sailed to Oriental averaging about 7 knots!!  That bottom job we just spent a bunch of money on has already paid off.  Other folks were enjoying the windy day with a Regatta.

Well we arrived in Oriental around 1430 and tried several times to drop the anchor in the harbor.  It was very windy, the water was shallow and the anchor was not holding well.  We felt that if we stayed there we would be aground.  We called the marina for a slip and they assured us we had plenty of depth for our 6 foot draft.  Not so... we ended up being aground in the slip!  Fortunately, the water was higher in the am and we got right out.  The seabirds always follow the shrimpers - this boat seemed to be a particular favorite.  Better fisherman??

Heading to Bellhaven, North Carolina in the am.  Promises to be another blustery day with storms predicted for Monday night.  Our plan was to anchor out again but with the weather forecast we opted for a marina.
